The new villa designed by Tuuli Petäjä-Sirén was inspired

The new villa designed by Tuuli Petäjä-Sirén was inspired by the sea. The architect and windsurfer is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics, and the new Tyrsky model appeared during the training season.
Olympic medal and racing windsurfer Tuuli Petäjä-Sirén spent countless hours at sea. With this in mind, the architect created the latest cabin model, called Tyrski. The name refers to the crashing waves, and when designing the log cabin, Petäjä-Sirén was inspired by the moss-covered waves crashing on the rocky shore and fishing villages. Tyrski is part of the Honka collection.
“The Tyrsky model is on a human scale. The steep gable roof with its fairly narrow deep frame evokes the houses of traditional fishing villages. I have taken the sea all my life and I have always seen the landscape of the archipelago from the sea ”, says Tuuli-Petäjä Mermaid.
Tyrsky follows the architect’s popular Tuuli pattern, with a slightly more classic look. What is common to modern villas are airy and uniform living spaces, large windows offering a wide view of nature and a harmonious layout.
“In the Tyrsky model, the ceiling is high in the living areas and gives character to the space. It follows the shape of the gable roof. The house is one and a half storeys high, with a mezzanine at one end that can be used as a guest area, a space for children or as a good setting for remote work, ”explains the architect. There are two versions of the Tyrsky model, with two or three chambers. There are also two sizes of the model, with an area of 93 or 106 square meters.
Petäjä-Sirén designed a corner roof terrace in the covered space between the sauna and the living room. The terrace is accessible from the lounge area and the sauna. “Considering the climatic conditions in Finland, a sheltered and recessed terrace is a good solution. The spacious and high terrace and living space and the large windows of the Tyrsky model guarantee the pleasure of nature in all seasons and in all weathers. ”
In addition to his design work, Petäjä-Sirén is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics, which begin in July. This is his fourth Olympiad. Windsurfing and architecture unite important values linked to nature. “Wood is a material that is close to my heart. Building from Finnish logs is sustainable and environmentally friendly, which makes it a natural choice for me, ”she says.
Tyrsky’s sister model, Tuuli, was voted the most popular chalet model by Rakentaja.fi in 2020.
The demand for cabins continues to increase – the construction industry is in a phase of transformation
The Tyrsky model completes Honkarakenne’s budget villa series adapted to the archipelago landscape. According to the chief architect Anne Makinen, the construction of leisure homes is going through an interesting transitional phase, where two trends emerge: “Some builders are looking for a modern solution with all the comforts, space to breathe, large landscaped windows and a strong focus on construction. nature in the. Others regret the landscapes of the summer huts of their childhood and another kind of closeness to nature. They are more interested in a revivalist style and cabin tradition.
