Jason Knight vs. Charles Bennett to lead Gamebred FC, Bare Knuckle MMA Venture of Jorge Masvidal
Jorge Masvidal is sort of going back to his roots with his latest adventure, Gamebred FC.
MMA start-up with closed fists (remember, Masvidal rose to fame during his backyard fight days), the promotion is set to host its first event on June 18. And now Gamebred FC’s maiden voyage has a headliner: MMA / bare-handed boxing veterans Jason Knight and Charles “Felony” Bennett.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was among the first to break the news.
Knight (21-6 MMA, 1-1 BKB) was a popular UFC figure from 2015 to 2018. However, a 4-5 record and a four-fight slippage at the end of his run saw him get the dreaded pink sheet. by Dana White and co. Knight, affectionately known as “Hick Diaz” for his fighting style, would end up jumping to BKFC, putting on a pair of memorable pieces with fellow UFC ex-pat Artem Lobov in 2019. The pair would split the fights, with Knight losing. a decision in the first, but getting his revenge with a fifth-round TKO from Lobov in their second meeting.
After returning to the cage for a pure MMA contest at iKon 5 in March (and scoring a starter submission victory at the back), Knight will now try his hand at MMA with his bare hands. And he drew one of the real sports characters in Charles Bennett.
Bennett, (30-41-2 MMA, 0-3 BKB), at 41, has seen just about everything there is to see in combat sports. Known then as “Krazy Horse”, he is well known for his races in KOTC, PRIDE and a 7 second knockout of Minoru Kimura under the RIZIN banner in 2016. The fighter now nicknamed “Felony” also took part in a infamous backstage altercation with Cristiano Marcello while he was PRIDE in 2005.
Over the past few years, Bennett has struggled to find a win while competing regularly. He has lost his last 11 MMA fights and his three bare-knuckle boxing fights.
Gamebred FC is scheduled to stream live on BKTVAPP.com June 18, 2021. The event will take place at Biloxi, Mississippi.
