Heather Knight scored 89 points as England took a 30-point victory over New Zealand in the first ODI of the five-game series in Bristol.
The England captain put in 65 with Tammy Beaumont (44) before a mid-order collapse saw the hosts slip from 109-1 to 140-5, but a stand of 88 with Katherine Brunt (43) saved the innings and meant New Zealand was left chasing 242 for the win.
The first wickets of Nat Sciver and Kate Cross reduced the White Ferns to 31-3 in response and when the latter fired Sophie Devine (34) to end a 78 partnership with Amy Satterthwaite (79no), tourists turned quickly faded.
New Zealand had some hope when Lea Tahuhu came in at No.10 and hit 25 on 14 balls and a final wicket between Satterthwaite and Leigh Kasperek (15) might have worried England a bit before the No. 11 is sold out. visitors still 30 less than their target.
