Honda has always been a strong contender in Consumer Reports’ tests – and it’s easy to see why. Take the Honda Accord, for example. It is a well-balanced sedan with plenty of technologies and safety technologies. For example, the 2022 Honda Accord received an impressive overall rating, ranking as the best mid-size car of 2022! It also earned near-perfect reliability and owner satisfaction ratings. However, there are six Honda Accord models that Consumer Reports does not recommend.

The 2018 Accord is not recommended by Consumer Reports

Although the 2018 Honda Accord is a green choice, it is not recommended by Consumer Reports. It received an average rating for reliability and owner satisfaction. Even though the continuously variable transmission (CVT) works well, it generates loud engine noise. There are also some issues with the climate system and the brakes, two of its most common trouble spots.

The good news is that there is a slightly quieter hybrid version. So if you’re looking for a more fuel-efficient car, the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid might be worth a look.

The 2009 Honda Accord is also not recommended

Just like the 2018 model, the 2009 Honda Accord was not able to earn high reliability and owner satisfaction ratings. Some of its downsides include road noise and not having an on-board computer. Owners have reported issues with the engine, such as leaks and misfires.

However, there are a few advantages to this model. It has good maneuverability and visibility, and the controls are easy to use.

Consumer Reports also does not recommend the 2008 model.

The 2008 Honda Accord sedans also did not achieve high reliability or owner satisfaction ratings. Gas mileage is not as good with this model as the previous year. The main issues included the car’s electrical system, which has to do with the alternator and the battery. Problems persist with the 2008 Accord’s engine and brakes.

The good news? The rear seat is generous, so passengers will remain comfortable. There are also four- and six-cylinder engine options.

You can skip the 2003 Honda Accord

Just like the others, the 2003 Honda Accord also got less than stellar reliability and owner satisfaction ratings. So what are the main problems with this model? Electrical equipment, air conditioning system and on-board electronics.

Regarding performance, Consumer Reports says, “The Accord has a firm yet absorbing ride, stable and quiet on the highways, smooth and controlled on bumpy roads.”

2000 and 2001 Honda Accord cars are not recommended by Consumer Reports. The 2000 model had issues with the transmission and air conditioning system. Meanwhile, 2001 models had issues with the engine and on-board electronics. Both options are available in sedan and coupe body styles with four-speed automatic and five-speed manual transmissions available.

Which Accord models are recommended?

Lately, the Honda Accord has done very well in Consumer Reports tests. The 2021, 2020 and 2019 models are all great choices if you’re looking for a “new for you” ride. You also can’t go wrong with any model from 2013 to 2017 – it’s one of the best generations yet. Additionally, the 2012 and 2011 models both received higher reliability scores, so if you need a used Accord for your travels, be sure to check out those specific years.
